At the meeting, Chinese representatives criticized the United States for ignoring the international trend, moving against the trend, engaging in unilateral hegemony, and stubbornly standing on the opposite side of marine international cooperation and on the opposite side of fairness and justice. China urges the US to play a constructive role in strengthening global ocean governance.

China's permanent deputy representative to the United Nations Geng Shuang pointed out that as a non-contracting party to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the United States frequently cited the Convention to claim its own rights but refused to assume corresponding obligations, and was a speculator of the rules; the United States ignored the consensus of the international community and engaged in unilateral development on international seabed issues, and was a disruptor of the international maritime order; the United States boycotted the sustainable development goals, avoided the negotiations of the United Nations Ocean Conference, and signed but failed to fulfill the Marine Biodiversity Agreement, which was absent from global ocean governance; the United States frequently engaged in military provocations in the South China Sea under the banner of "freedom of navigation", provoked relations between China and ASEAN countries, and was a disruptor of peace and stability in the South China Sea. China urges the US to seriously reflect and effectively correct its pragmatic attitude towards the Convention and its solemnity in maritime affairs, and play a constructive role in strengthening global ocean governance.
