The winter chill swept across Kwai Chung Sports Ground, as the Hong Kong SYC&IA Chan Nam Chong Memorial College proudly hosted its 42nd Sports Day on 19 and 20 November, the two coldest days of the year so far. Despite the biting wind, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and excitement as students, teachers, and parents gathered to celebrate the annual sporting tradition.
All events were successfully completed, and the award ceremony was held on the same day. After a spirited competition across track and field events, Blue House emerged as the overall champion, earning loud cheers and applause from their peers.
The school was honored to invite Leung Kwan-yee, a distinguished track and field athlete from Hong Kong, China, as the guest of honour. Leung specializes in sprint events and has represented Hong Kong on the international stage. In September 2023, she was selected as part of the Hong Kong, China sports delegation to the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. Earlier that year, she and her teammates made history by breaking the Hong Kong women’s 4x100m relay record with a time of 45.17 seconds in the preliminary rounds held in June.
Leung's presence brought inspiration to the students. Her journey as an athlete reflects determination, discipline, and perseverance—qualities that resonate deeply with young people striving to balance academics and extracurricular pursuits. She shared her experiences with the students, encouraging them to embrace challenges with courage and to believe in their own potential.
Sports Day is more than just a competition; it is a celebration of youthful energy and diverse talents. Some students shine in academics, while others excel on the track or in the field. Together, they demonstrate that success is not confined to the classroom. Through sports, students learn valuable lessons: to remain humble in victory, resilient in defeat, and to cultivate a positive outlook on life.
The event was enjoyed by all, with cheers echoing across the stadium as students gave their best in every race and game. Teachers and parents applauded their efforts, recognizing that sports nurture confidence, teamwork, and character.
Leung Kwan-yee's story of breaking records and representing Hong Kong on the Asian stage reminded students that persistence can turn dreams into reality. Her words encouraged them to face difficulties head-on, to persevere, and to never give up.
As the school community reflected on the success of the 42nd Sports Day, one message stood out clearly: sportsmanship is not only about competition, but also about embracing challenges, believing in oneself, and striving for excellence.
