According to the "Civil Affairs Statistics Data for the Fourth Quarter of 2024" released by the official website of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the number of marriage registrations nationwide in 2024 was 6.106 million pairs, and the number of divorce registrations was 2.621 million pairs.
The Paper noticed that in 2023, 7.68 million couples of marriage registrations were handled nationwide and 2.593 million couples of divorce registrations were handled nationwide. In comparison, the number of marriage registrations nationwide decreased by 1.574 million, a decrease of about 20.5%; the number of divorce registrations increased by 28,000, a increase of about 1.1%.
This also means that the number of marriage registrations nationwide has fallen again after experiencing a stop-fall and rebound in 2023.
Statistics of the Ministry of Civil Affairs show that before 2023, the number of national marriage registrations has continued to decline for many years: the national marriage registration volume in 2013 was 13.469 million, which began to decline year by year in 2014. Later, it fell below the 10 million mark in 2019, fell below the 8 million mark in 2021, fell to 6.835 million in 2022, falling below the 7 million mark in 7 million mark, and rebounded to 7.68 million in 2023.
