Judging from the electricity data of market-oriented transactions, in 2016, the national market-oriented trading electricity volume was only 1.1 trillion kilowatt-hours, and reached 6.2 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2024. 63% of the electricity consumption in the whole society comes from market-oriented trading electricity. Among them, the electricity volume of cross-provincial and cross-regional market-oriented transactions reached 1.4 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2024, an increase of more than ten times compared with 2016.

From the perspective of the entities participating in market-oriented transactions, as of now, the number of business entities registered and participated in the transactions has increased from 42,000 in 2016 to 816,000, an increase of nearly 20 times, covering various business entities on both sides of power generation and consumption, such as thermal power, new energy, and nuclear power.

Hao Ruifeng, Director of the Market Supervision Department of the National Energy Administration, said that as of now, the trading products of my country's power market cover medium- and long-term, spot, auxiliary services and green certificates and green electricity. In terms of medium- and long-term trading, the normal opening of the market has been achieved. In terms of spot market construction, 5 provincial and State Grid inter-provincial spots have been officially transferred to operation, 7 provincial spot markets have entered continuous settlement trial operation, the southern regional power market has carried out full-month settlement trial operation, and the Yangtze River Delta regional market has established a power mutual exchange transaction mechanism, and the market has become an important means for the optimal allocation of power resources across the country.

Over 50% of new energy power generation is consumed by market-oriented methods

Data released by the National Energy Administration on the 14th also showed that in the past 10 years, the on-grid electricity price of coal-fired power generation has been fully liberalized, promoting new energy to fully participate in the power market. my country has initially established a market-oriented electricity price mechanism of "can rise and fall".

A relevant person in charge of the National Energy Administration said that with the continuous improvement of the market-oriented electricity price mechanism, more than 50% of my country's new energy power generation is absorbed through market-oriented methods. With the growth rate of new energy installed capacity far higher than load growth, the utilization rate of new energy remains above 95%. In 2024, the trading electricity volume of Green Electric reached 233.6 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 235% year-on-year.

At the same time, my country has ensured that electricity prices are basically stable and energy consumption costs are generally controllable. The average electricity price level of residents and industry and commerce is at a low level internationally.
