Xinhua News Agency Beijing (Reporters Zhou Yuan and Gu Yiping) The first mandatory national standard in the field of hazardous substance control of electrical and electronic products in my country's electrical and electronic products, "Requirements for Restricted Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products", was recently released and will be officially implemented on August 1, 2027.
This is what the reporter learned from the press conference of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on the 22nd.
Wang Peng, Director of the Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, introduced at the press conference that my country is the world's largest producer and consumer of electrical appliances and electronic products. Hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products may bring health risks to users and cause soil and water pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the use of harmful substances from the source in accordance with the concept of green management throughout the life cycle.
The standard puts mandatory limit requirements for the content of four heavy metal elements such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, as well as six types of persistent organic pollutants such as polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers, and four phthalate esters. Through requirements such as identification, disclosure of hazardous substance information and preservation of technical support documents, ensure that the control results of hazardous substances can be traceable and verified.
Wang Peng introduced that in terms of testing, the 10 hazardous substance testing methods stipulated in the standards are consistent with the technical requirements of the corresponding international standards, promoting the comprehensive integration of harmful substance control of my country's electrical and electronic products with the international level, providing convenience for product import and export trade, and further consolidating and enhancing the international competitiveness of my country's electrical and electronic industry.
In addition, the standard implementation has a two-year transition period, that is, it will be officially implemented from August 1, 2027. For products produced or imported before the standard implementation date, the company will be given 1 year for the inventory product consumption, that is, the inventory product can still be sold before August 1, 2028.
