Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council warned Lai Ching-te authorities: "Relying on the United States to seek independence" is useless and doomed to fail

CCTV News: The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference on July 16, and spokesperson Chen Binhua answered reporters' questions on recent hot cross-strait issues.

Q: Taiwanese media reported that Lai Ching-te will "visit" Paraguay, Guatemala and Belize in August, and will "transit" New York and Dallas, USA during this period. What are your comments on this?

A: We firmly oppose any form of official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan, and firmly oppose Lai Ching-te's "transit" to the United States for any reason or form. The US side should abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, handle the Taiwan issue carefully, and not send any wrong signals to the separatist forces of "Taiwan independence". The authorities warned Lai Ching-te that "relying on the United States to seek independence" wasted its efforts and was doomed to fail.

The one-China principle is the general consensus of the international community and the basic norm of international relations. It is upheld and abided by most countries in the world. It is the righteousness, the will of the people, and the general trend. We hope that Latin American and Caribbean countries will recognize the general trend, handle Taiwan-related issues carefully, and join the big family of China-Latin America friendly cooperation as soon as possible.
