The Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission recently announced the "2025 Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission Department Budget", which clearly included the "Preliminary Study on the Shenzhen-Pearl River Estuary Transportation Demand and Channel Layout Adaptation)" in the expenditure budget. In addition, the 2025 Shenzhen Transportation Work Conference also revealed that Shenzhen will vigorously promote the preliminary work of the Shenzhen-Pearl River Channel this year.

Plan is the first cross-sea high-rail dual-use channel in the Greater Bay Area. The Shenzhen-Zhuhai Channel, also known as the "Lingdingyang Channel", starts from Qianhai, Shenzhen in the east, crosses the estuary of the Pearl River, and ends at Zhuhai High-tech Zone in the west. It is located between the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, about 12 kilometers away from the Shenzhen-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and about 20 kilometers away from the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

The Deep-Zhuhai Channel is one of the cross-river channels planned and built in Guangdong. It is planned to be a composite road-rail channel, which has the functions of high-speed rail, intercity railway and expressway. It is the first cross-sea road-rail dual-use channel in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Shenzhen-Zhuhai High-speed Railway part starts at Xili Station in Shenzhen, spans Lingdingyang to Zhuhai, and sets Zhuhai North Station in the Beiwei area of ​​Zhuhai High-tech Zone, extending westward to Zhuhai Central Station (Hezhou). The total length of the line is about 80.7 kilometers and the designed speed is 350 kilometers per hour.

The Shenzhen-Zhuhai intercity part has a line starting from Shenzhen Qianhai Station and a station is set up in the Zhuhai Houhuan area, which is connected to the Zhudou intercity and Shenzhen-Hui intercity. The total length of the line is about 40 kilometers and the designed speed is 200 kilometers per hour.

The progress of the "super project" has accelerated comprehensively

The deep bead channel project has always attracted much attention. Since last year, Shenzhen and Zhuhai have made every effort to promote the implementation of the project, and the specific details and promotion plans have gradually become clear.

At present, the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Channel has been included in the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intercity Railway Construction Plan", "Guangdong Province Comprehensive Three-dimensional Transportation Network Planning Outline" and "Guangdong Province Expressway Network Planning (2020-2035)". Shenzhen and Zhuhai have respectively started the preparation of the connection line planning scheme on both sides of the Lingdingyang Channel and made space reservations.

Accelerate the formation of the "1-hour economic circle" of the Golden Inner Bay

The Shenzhen-China Channel, which will be opened to traffic in 2024, opens the golden channel to connect the inner bays of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In the next step, the planning and construction of the Shenzhen-Zhuhai Channel will further strengthen Shenzhen's radiation effect on the west bank of the Pearl River, and at the same time achieve rapid direct connection between Shenzhen-Hong Kong and Zhuhai-Macao in the Greater Bay Area.

As a composite cross-river channel of the road and railway, the deep-pearl channel will fill the structural vacancy of the existing transportation network in the Pearl River Estuary, complement the Shenzhen-Chinese Channel, and improve the cross-river channel system on the east-west bank of the Pearl River. The Shenzhen-Zhuhai Intercity Railway planned within the channel will be expected to achieve direct access from Shenzhen to Zhuhai in 30 minutes, further promoting the construction of the "Shenzhen metropolitan area on the track", and Shenzhen's status as a transportation hub in the Greater Bay Area will be further strengthened.

In terms of economic radiation, by connecting Shenzhen’s scientific and technological innovation resources with the manufacturing foundation on the west bank of the Pearl River, an industrial collaboration model of “Shenzhen R&D + Zhuhai Manufacturing” will be formed in the future, accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in the Greater Bay Area and the integration of the industrial chain, and accelerate the formation of the “1-hour economic circle” of the Golden Inner Bay.
