Go to the grassroots during the New Year, and grow small cucumbers with good ways to get rich

In the twelfth lunar month, the temperature is very low. Recently, the reporter walked into the greenhouse in Dahuangdi Village, Xinjie Town, Midu County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, and saw that the shed was as warm as spring and the vegetables were growing vigorously, which was a vibrant scene.

Grower Zhou Yufang is busy. On the ridges of soil, the first crop of cucumber seedlings of this year, which were just planted a few days ago, drilled out of the mulch film and grew tender green sprouts. Zhou Yufang prepared water and fertilizer according to proportion and carried a bucket to water the seedlings. As the watering was poured, sweat beads emerged from Zhou Yufang's head. He looked at the hygrometer hanging in the greenhouse, "Well, the temperature is a bit high, don't heat up the cucumber seedlings. I'll open the window for breathing and reduce the cooling." "My greenhouse covers an area of 5 acres, and all of them grow cucumbers, and the benefits are very good." Zhou Yufang thought, "The Spring Festival will be in a few days, and the village cooperatives will pay dividends on site, and it's another happy year."

There are many families like Zhou Yufang in Dahuangdi Village. There are 65 families in the village, 48 of which have joined the cooperative and have built vegetable greenhouses, and their lives are good.

Although the villagers are living a prosperous life nowadays, the Great Wasteland Village in the past was not like this. "It turns out that this place is just like the village name. It is very deserted, there is no industry, and the environment is still poor." Zhang Linbao, Party branch secretary, villagers' group leader, and village cooperative chairman, said, "The turning point comes from the "double-binding" model of "leading enterprises tied to cooperatives and cooperatives tied to farmers" we have explored."

Rural revitalization, industries are the first. What industries should Dahuangdi Village develop to get rid of the dilemma of weak collective economy?

In 2020, the Party Branch of Dahuangdi Village took the lead in establishing a professional farmers' cooperative. With the help of the local government, it signed an agreement with Dali Yunfei Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. to jointly form a modern facility vegetable production and operation consortium. Farmers join the cooperative through land and capital investment, participate in production and distribute dividends according to the agreement; the cooperative contracts the transferred land to the members for production in 5 acres of business units. Yunfei Company is responsible for vegetable seed selection and breeding, seedling grafting, seedling cultivation, and unified production technology; farmers are responsible for planting and picking, and then uniformly sold by Yunfei Company. Through such "double binding", a community of interests that is closely linked between farmers, cooperatives and enterprises has been built.

When the cooperative was first established, many farmers were not optimistic and were unwilling to join. When building a greenhouse, you have to invest money first. What if the failure fails and is wasted?

Zhang Linbao gritted his teeth and applied for a bank loan of 3 million yuan for the cooperative in his personal name, and mobilized 14 farmers to join the cooperative.

"The technology is taught by technicians of Yunfei Company. When the cucumbers are ripe, the company will collect them and sell them together. We can do it with it. With this conclusion, we think the designation can be done." Zhou Yufang said that her family became one of the first farmers to join the cooperative.

In just two years, the cooperative paid off the bank loan one year in advance, and the farmers' income increased steadily.

"The couple used to work outside the city and couldn't save much money a year, so they didn't care about studying in the baby. Now, in the past few years, my house has been renovated. I bought a car a while ago and drove a new car to visit. I was so happy." Zhou Yufang said with a smile.

As he spoke, an electric car drove over from the other end of the village. The villager Zhou Hongbin got off. He returned home to start a business last year and tasted the sweetness when he grew cucumbers for the first time.

"I started working as a chef outside, but I still felt that it was good to find a job at my doorstep. Last year, I heard that the village was working on the second phase of the construction of a 'double-tied' greenhouse base, so I went back to the village to plant two and a half acres of cucumbers. I didn't expect that the first batch of benefits would be good, and I would continue to work this year." Zhou Hongbin said.

In recent years, 21 migrant workers under the age of 40 have returned to their hometowns to start businesses in Dahuangdi Village, including 4 college graduates. Nowadays, they all have become the backbone of the cooperative's cucumber planting technology.

"If I hadn't taken this step at that time, there would be no such industry now. In the past, the village's group had a collective economic income of less than 20,000 yuan a year. Now, the village's collective economy has grown year by year, exceeding 200,000 yuan in 2024. The economy has developed, and the village's appearance has also been completely renewed. Look how beautiful our village is!" Zhang Linbao led the reporter around the village. The neat asphalt road extends deep into the village. The moon on the roadside is blooming brightly, and beautiful small buildings are dotted among them. The white walls and black tiles and the paintings of houses complement each other, and a garden-like village is vividly visible.

In recent years, the village has held a "village evening". The whole village has had a New Year's dinner together, dividends are distributed on site, and a fun sports meeting for villagers is held. It has also attracted surrounding villagers and even tourists from inside and outside the county to participate.

"What activities are you planning to participate in this year's 'village evening'?" asked the reporter.

"If I hold a tug-of-war competition, I will definitely go there. It's a good omen." Zhou Hongbin said with a smile.

"Now there are people in the city who come to rent a house for the New Year. In the future, we plan to build catering and homestays, and set up a happy canteen and kindergarten for the elderly, develop rural tourism and living industries, so that the Great Wasteland Village will not only be 'face' but also 'inside', but also be more beautiful," said Zhang Linbao.
