Xinhua News Agency Kigali (Reporter Liu Youmin) The Chinese Embassy in Rwanda issued a security alert on the 5th, saying that in view of the sharp deterioration of the security situation in eastern Congo (DRC), Chinese citizens are reminded not to travel from Rwanda and other neighboring countries to the eastern Congo (DRC) North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri, Haut-Uele and other provinces.
The security reminder said that a very small number of Chinese citizens still ignored repeated reminders from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy, took chances, and went their own way, illegally crossing the border from Rwanda into relevant areas in eastern Congo (DRC) or participating in illegal gold mining activities, completely disregarding their own safety and family happiness, leading to the tragic lesson of family destruction and death.
The embassy emphasized that Chinese citizens are prohibited from illegally crossing the border from Rwanda and other neighboring countries into the eastern provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo such as North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri, and Haut-Uélé, and are not allowed to engage in all forms of illegal gold mining activities.
The embassy reminds Chinese citizens to earnestly assume the safety responsibility of the "first responsible person", consciously resist and report "illegal gold mining" and other deception and coercion activities, and not to be desperadoes "seeking wealth and wealth through danger".
The embassy also reminded that Chinese citizens and companies still stranded in eastern Congo (DRC) should follow the serious reminders of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Congo (DRC) and evacuate immediately.
