CCTV news: According to the "Chinese Embassy in the UK" public account, the Chinese Embassy in the UK issued a statement: On December 15, British Foreign Affairs and Development Secretary Cooper issued a statement openly making irresponsible remarks on the conviction and verdict of Jimmy Lai's case, slandering and smearing the Hong Kong National Security Law. This is a gross interference in China's internal affairs, a blatant trampling on the spirit of the rule of law, and a serious violation of the basic norms of international relations. We firmly oppose and strongly condemn the British side's unreasonable actions.

A large number of facts revealed in the trial of Jimmy Lai’s case have fully proved that Lai is the main planner and participant of a series of anti-China and disruptive incidents in Hong Kong, a pawn of external anti-China forces, and the driving force behind the "extradition bill storm". He openly begged foreign countries to impose sanctions on China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, clamored to "fight for the United States," colluded with "Hong Kong independence" and "black violence" organizations and foreign forces, abused public opinion tools to incite hatred, intensify confrontation, instigated support for riots, attempted to disrupt Hong Kong, and carried out "color revolution" attempts. He had numerous crimes and conclusive evidence. Jimmy Lai is by no means merely exercising his right to freedom of speech in a "peaceful manner" as the British claim. His actions have seriously impacted the bottom line of the "one country, two systems" principle, seriously endangered national security, and seriously damaged Hong Kong's prosperity, stability and the well-being of citizens. Such serious crimes should be severely punished by law.

Maintaining national sovereignty, security and development interests is the highest principle of the "one country, two systems" policy. The Hong Kong National Security Law is necessary to safeguard national security. Hong Kong is a society governed by the rule of law. All laws must be abided by and violations must be prosecuted. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region handled Jimmy Lai's case strictly in accordance with the law, safeguarded the authority and dignity of the rule of law, and fulfilled its constitutional responsibility to safeguard national security, which has received widespread recognition and support. The trial process of Jimmy Lai's case was open and transparent, and the procedures were fair and impartial, leaving no room for criticism and no criticism.

Hong Kong has long since returned to China, and British colonial rule over Hong Kong has long ended. Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs. The British side has no right or qualification to dictate or interfere in Hong Kong affairs. The British side's attempt to interfere with Hong Kong's judicial system will only further expose its evil intention to disrupt Hong Kong, arouse the common hatred of Hong Kong society, and will only end in failure.

We strongly urge the British side to immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong's justice, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, stop shielding anti-China disruptors in Hong Kong, and not to go further down the wrong path.
