A major fire broke out in Wang Fook Court in Tai Po, Hong Kong, killing 44 people and injuring 58 others

China News Service Hong Kong | As of 6 a.m. on November 27, the fire in the Wang Fook Court residential building in Tai Po, Hong Kong had killed 44 people and injured 58 people. One of the firefighters who died on the job was unfortunately killed. Among the injured currently hospitalized, 15 are in critical condition and 23 are seriously injured.

On November 26, a fire broke out in a residential building in Wang Fook Court, Tai Po, Hong Kong. The fire quickly escalated to level 5 and continued to burn for more than ten hours.

After the fire broke out, the Fire Services Department launched rescue operations overnight and successively rescued trapped residents from the fire scene. Chen Hing-yong, deputy director of the Fire Services Department, said that 56 injured people had been successfully rescued. The injured were scattered in different locations in buildings such as Wang Cheong Pavilion and Wang Tai Pavilion. Two of them were rescued on the rooftop. Rescue efforts are still ongoing.

Previously, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Li Jiachao pointed out that 279 people were still missing. Regarding whether the number of missing people has increased, the Fire Services Department responded that because some of the help-seeking cases may be duplicated, further verification is needed.
