CCTV News: According to the WeChat official account of the National Railway Administration, the national railway passenger volume and freight volume increased steadily from January to December 2024, both hitting record highs for the same period in history.
——Passenger transport. From January to December, the number of railway passengers across the country was 4.312 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.9%. The annual passenger volume exceeded the 4.3 billion mark for the first time. Among them, the passenger volume of EMUs was 3.272 billion, accounting for 75.9% of the national railway passenger volume, a year-on-year increase of 12.9%; the passenger turnover volume was 1.57991 billion person-km, a year-on-year increase of 7.3%, of which the EMU passenger turnover volume was 1.084549 billion person-km. A year-on-year increase of 10.3%.
In December, the number of railway passengers across the country was 297 million, a year-on-year increase of 2.6%; the passenger turnover volume was 95.849 billion passenger-kilometers, basically the same as last year.
——Freight transportation. From January to December, the national railway freight volume was 5.175 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%; the freight turnover volume was 3.58619 billion ton-kilometers. Among them, the national railway freight volume was 3.985 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%; the national railway freight turnover volume was 3.258063 billion ton-kilometers.
In December, the national railway freight volume was 459 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%; the freight turnover volume was 325.903 billion ton-kilometers, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%. Among them, the national railway freight volume was 354 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.8%; the freight turnover volume was 299.228 billion ton-kilometers, a year-on-year increase of 5.9%.
According to statistics, from January to December 2024, the country's railway fixed asset investment totaled 850.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.3%, 3,113.4 kilometers of new railway lines were put into operation, 2,687.2 kilometers of double railway lines were put into operation, and electrified railways were put into operation 3935.8 kilometers, the construction of modern railway infrastructure system continues to advance.
