Today (April 27), the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association released the blue book "China Nuclear Energy Development Report 2025". The blue book shows that as of now, my country has a total of 102 nuclear power units under operation, construction and approved construction, with an installed capacity of 113 million kilowatts, and the overall scale of nuclear power has jumped to the world's first for the first time.

At present, there are 28 nuclear power units under construction in my country, with a total installed capacity of 33.65 million kilowatts. The installed capacity of the under construction has remained the world's first for 18 consecutive years; my country's commercial nuclear power units have reached 58, with a total installed capacity of 60.96 million kilowatts.

Cao Shudong, Executive Vice Chairman of China Nuclear Energy Industry Association: In 2024, my country approved 5 nuclear power projects, including the first phase of Xuwei, Guangdong Lufeng, Shandong Zhaoyuan, etc., with a total of 11 units. my country has approved 10 nuclear power units or more for three consecutive years.

In addition, my country's nuclear power generation continues to grow. In 2024, the cumulative power generation of nuclear power units in the country reached 444.7 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 4.72% of the national power generation, ranking second in the world, equivalent to reducing the combustion of 127 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 334 million tons.

Not only the scale of nuclear power continues to expand, my country's independent innovation capabilities in nuclear power technology have also been significantly enhanced. In 2024, 100% domestic production of key main equipment for nuclear power and independent control of key component technologies will be achieved. A total of 114 sets of domestic nuclear power main equipment will be delivered throughout the year, ensuring the normal operation of units such as Hualong No. 1, Guohe series, and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors.

Cao Shudong, Executive Vice Chairman of China Nuclear Energy Industry Association: Independent research and development has continuously made new breakthroughs. "Hualong No. 1" combines engineering construction and operation and maintenance experience to continuously carry out technological improvement and optimization, and completes the preliminary design and preliminary safety analysis of subsequent model standards. The first reactor of the national major science and technology special project "Guohe No. 1" demonstration project has been completed and put into production; all work has been steadily advanced after the commercial operation of the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor demonstration project, and "Linglong No. 1" is expected to be completed and put into production in 2026.
