On April 24, Li Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the 4th National Reading Conference in Taiyuan, Shanxi and delivered a speech.

The guests at the meeting said that General Secretary Xi Jinping attaches great importance to promoting national reading and building a bookish China, elevating national reading to a national strategy, and leading national reading to accumulate strength and prosperity to become a trend. Reading is the most basic cultural construction. We must thoroughly study and practice Xi Jinping’s cultural thoughts, promote national reading, and make reading truly a way of life and a spiritual pursuit for people.

The guests at the meeting believed that reading classics has fundamental significance for inheriting culture. We should guide people to read more Marxist classics, especially the works of General Secretary Xi Jinping, read more Chinese traditional culture classics, and read more ancient and modern Chinese and foreign literature and academic masterpieces. We must promote the overall construction of a bookish campus, a bookish family, and a bookish society, so that young people can develop the habit of reading from an early age. We must build convenient and affordable urban and rural reading spaces, run physical bookstores well, and create better conditions for reading. We must improve laws and regulations, establish and improve a comprehensive coordination mechanism for promoting national reading, and make advocating reading a stronger social trend.

Tie Ning, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Zhu Yongxin, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Executive Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Democratic Progressive Party, attended the conference.

This conference was held from April 23 to 25. With the theme of "Cultivating reading style and building a cultural power", a number of activities are held around the key tasks and key links of national reading, aiming to lead the reading style and promote the construction of a cultural power with the fragrance of books in China.
