The reporter learned from the Ministry of Water Resources that more than 3,000 happy rivers and lakes have been built across the country.
Since 2022, the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Finance have selected a batch of rivers and lakes across the country to implement happy rivers and lake construction projects. This year, the central government will support 60 rivers and lakes in 29 provinces to carry out happy river and lake construction projects, covering seven major river basins including the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, the Huai River, the Haihe River, the Pearl River, the Songhua River, the Liaohe River, and the Taihu Lake. It spans the eastern, central and western regions of my country, with rich rivers and lakes and their own characteristics. We will take the basin as a unit to coordinate water disasters, water resources, water ecology, water environment, water culture and coastline protection, comprehensively promote the construction of happy rivers and lakes, and promote the comprehensive upgrade of the appearance of rivers and lakes.
At the same time, 31 provinces across the country have also carried out the construction of happy rivers and lakes through provincial river chief orders and other methods, and have built more than 3,000 happy rivers and lakes.
The Ministry of Water Resources stated that the next step will be to promote the construction of happy rivers and lakes, and strive to build a number of happy rivers and lakes with the focus of "mother rivers" in various places by 2030. By 2035, the protection and management capacity and level of rivers and lakes will be significantly improved, and the appearance of rivers and lakes will be comprehensively upgraded.
