On April 2 (local time in the United States), the Trump administration signed an executive order to cancel the tax-free treatment of small parcels imported from mainland China and Hong Kong, China. This move seriously violates international trade rules, not only undermines the normal trade order of the textile industry in China and the United States, but also has an adverse impact on Chinese textile and clothing companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, cross-border e-commerce operators and supporting industrial chains, but will also directly harm the interests of many ordinary American consumers and damage the fairness and efficiency of the international market. In response to this, the China Textile Industry Federation issued a statement as follows:
First, the Chinese textile industry fully agrees with the relevant position of the Chinese government and strongly condemns and firmly opposes the hegemonic acts of the United States to undermine the international supply chain order and increase trade costs through its domestic administrative measures.
Second, the policy of exempting small parcels tariffs is an internationally accepted facilitation measure. The US ignores reality, violates the World Trade Organization's non-discrimination principle and fair trade spirit, damages the resilience of the global textile industry chain, and ultimately damages the interests of all parties, including American companies and consumers.
Thirdly, as an important contributor and participant in the global textile and garment industry, China has long used high-quality products and services to meet global market demand, providing American consumers with diverse consumption options. Cross-border e-commerce and small packages have benefited millions of small and medium-sized American merchants and ordinary families. This kind of behavior of the US side that harms others and does not benefit oneself is unreasonable.
Fourth, the China Textile Industry Federation calls on international organizations, industry organizations of various countries and relevant stakeholders to jointly resist trade protectionism and safeguard the multilateral trading system. We firmly believe that the trend of globalization is irreversible. Only by adhering to fair competition and mutual benefit and win-win results can the sustainable development of the global textile industry be achieved. We support the Chinese government in taking effective measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, and resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of my country's relevant industrial chains.
