The Canadian government announced that it will impose 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles starting from October 1, 2024; and 25% tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum products starting from October 22, 2024. Canada's unilateral tariff imposition disregards objective facts and World Trade Organization rules, is a typical trade protectionist practice, constitutes discriminatory measures against China, seriously infringes on China's legitimate rights and interests, and undermines China-Canada economic and trade relations.
In accordance with the "Tariff Law of the People's Republic of China", "Customs Law of the People's Republic of China", "Foreign Trade Law of the People's Republic of China" and other laws and regulations and basic principles of international law, with the approval of the State Council, the Tariffs Committee of the State Council issued an announcement that from March 20, 2025, a 100% tariff will be imposed on rapeseed oil, oil residue cakes and peas originating in Canada; a 25% tariff will be imposed on aquatic products and pork originating in Canada.
China urges Canada to view bilateral economic and trade cooperation rationally, respect objective facts, abide by the rules of the World Trade Organization, and correct wrong practices immediately.
