This year's government work report proposes that it is necessary to cultivate and expand emerging industries and future industries, and carry out large-scale application demonstration actions for new technologies, new products and new scenarios. Lu Tiezhong, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and from China National Nuclear Corporation, said in an interview with reporters that in order to respond to the country's future industrial strategic development requirements, my country's nuclear energy development will be implemented in accordance with the "three-step" strategy, and a number of advanced nuclear energy technologies will be accelerated.
The "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy refers to China's long-term plan for nuclear energy development, which specifically includes three stages: thermal reactor, fast reactor and fusion reactor, among which the thermal reactor represents "Hualong No. 1". As of now, "Hualong One" has 33 units under construction and in operation worldwide, making it the model with the largest number of units under construction and in operation in the world.

National CPPCC Member Lu Tiezhong: At present, there are 5 "Hualong No. 1" in operation in China and 2 foreigners. There are 26 "Hualong No. 1" under construction, and the current operating units are in good condition.

Lu Tiezhong told reporters that not only "Hualong No. 1" is constantly breaking through, but the development progress of my country's fast reactor and fusion reactor is also accelerating. Fusion reactors are energy devices that simulate the principle of nuclear fusion reactions within the sun, also known as the "artificial sun". Fast reactors are reactors that directly bombard uranium-238 with fast neutrons to trigger fission chain reactions. They belong to the fourth generation of nuclear energy technology.

National CPPCC Member Lu Tiezhong: The biggest advantage of the fast reactor is that the utilization efficiency of uranium resources is increased by 60 times. Theoretically, global uranium resources can be used for more than 10,000 yuan. The third step is controllable nuclear fusion, which is also a future energy industry, which is further promoting the research and development of controllable nuclear fusion, and in fact, three steps are being carried out simultaneously.
