CCTV News (News Network): Large scientific devices are a powerful tool to promote scientific and technological innovation and break through key core technologies. The Two Sessions are coming soon, and Shen Zhiqiang, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and director of the Shanghai Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will provide suggestions for better playing the important role of these "heavy weapons of major powers".
As the director of the Shanghai Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shen Zhiqiang has continued to promote the development of my country in the field of astronomy research for many years. Not long ago, two 40-meter-caliber radio telescopes in Shigatse and Changbai Mountain, which he was responsible for, were completed and put into use, upgrading my country's Very Long Baseline Interference Measurement (VLBI) network to "six stations and one center". This is like a super "cliffe" that can combine large telescopes from all over the world to greatly improve observation sensitivity and spatial resolution. The project has served the orbit measurement mission of China's lunar exploration project for many years, and will also escort the fourth phase of the lunar exploration and other deep space exploration missions in the future.
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the construction of various large scientific devices with world-class scientific research levels in my country has been steadily advancing, providing strong support for accelerating the promotion of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement. At this year's Two Sessions, Member Shen Zhiqiang will also make suggestions on improving the efficiency of facilities.
