In Jishan County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi, an artificial composite wetland system with sewage treatment and river water replenishment functions is under construction.

This project with a total investment of nearly 120 million yuan is expected to be completed by the end of June this year. After put into use, the 20,000 cubic meters of tail water discharged by the county sewage treatment plant can be purified into Class III excellent water quality every day, and ecological water replenishment can be carried out simultaneously to the Fen River.

Since 2023, Shanxi Province has started construction of 285 projects in the Fen River Basin, including water ecological restoration, rain and sewage diversion transformation, and black and odorous water body treatment. At present, a total investment of 54 billion yuan has been completed, and more than 60% of the projects have been completed, ensuring the realization of the goal of "a pool of clear water enters the Yellow River".

In the heart of the Three Gorges Reservoir District of Chongqing, the integrated protection and restoration project of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands and sands is also coming to an end. At Tengzigou Reservoir in Shizhu County, a comprehensive management project integrating wetland protection, leisure tourism and industrial development is being carried out at a rapid pace. This project includes a 3.2-kilometer ecological buffer zone around the reservoir, 300 acres of mountain symbiotic terraced wetlands, etc.

Since the launch of the integrated protection and restoration project of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands and sandstones in the heart of the Three Gorges Reservoir in 2022, the overall progress of the project has reached 96%.

Cai Jianjun, deputy director of the Ecological Restoration Department of Chongqing Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, said: "We have explored a restoration model such as 'ecological restoration+', combining ecological restoration with industry, agriculture and tourism, solving the problems of soil erosion and agricultural non-point source pollution, and further building an important ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River."

This ship is 333 meters long and 60 meters wide, and produces a daily crude oil volume of up to 120,000 barrels. What is unique is that it can not only capture the carbon dioxide generated during navigation and production, but also use exhaust gas thermal energy to generate electricity, achieving the dual goals of environmental protection and energy conservation. The application of this technology marks an important step in my country's field of offshore carbon capture.

Offshore oil and gas operations will produce a large amount of carbon dioxide every year. According to statistics, the global offshore oil and gas production and processing industry emits about 38 million tons of carbon dioxide in 2023. If control measures are not taken, the carbon dioxide emissions may increase to nearly 50 million tons by 2030. Carbon capture and storage equipment provides greater possibilities for emission reduction in offshore oil and gas production and processing operations, and also provides new solutions for the global carbon peak and carbon neutrality target.

This project starts from Shenmu, Yulin in the north and ends at Lantian in Xi'an in the south. It is 1,271 kilometers long and has a dynamic investment of about 7.1 billion yuan. It is the "super project" with the largest investment and the longest route in the history of Shaanxi's power grid construction.

Deputy manager of the owner project department of the 750 kV third channel power transmission and transformation project from northern Shaanxi to Guanzhong said: "After the project is completed, clean electricity such as wind power and photovoltaic in northern Shaanxi will be transported to Guanzhong and southern Shaanxi. The transmission capacity will be increased from the current 6.1 million kilowatts to more than 10 million kilowatts, which can replace raw coal consumption by 7 million tons every year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 14 million tons."

In addition to helping the transformation of the energy structure, this green electricity artery will also help control air pollution in Guanzhong area. In 2024, the control of air pollution in Shaanxi Province has achieved remarkable results, with the PM2.5 concentration falling by 7.9% year-on-year, and the number of days of heavy pollution has been significantly reduced. However, the energy structure is more coal-oriented and the industrial structure is more important, which is still a problem in the control of air pollution in Shaanxi. Shaanxi will establish and then break this year, continue to reduce electricity and coal consumption in Guanzhong area and accelerate the transformation of industrial, energy and transportation structures.
