Recently, "We need both brush and ink and modern - Jiang Baolin Modern Brush and Ink Art Research Exhibition" was held in Shanghai Haipai Art Museum. The exhibition displays a total of 78 representative works by Jiang Baolin, mainly composed of huge works created in recent years, and is divided into four sections: plain drawing, new abstraction, accumulation of ink, and capital. The works include simple lines that draw landscapes, heavy layers of ink accumulation techniques, refreshing freehand flowers, and bold breakthroughs in symbolic new abstracts. The work "2023·12" shows the large lotus flowers in West Lake in the sun in the form of abstract paintings, recreating the poetic meaning of "the lotus leaves are endless and green, and the lotus flowers are uniquely red when reflected in the sun".
Jiang Baolin, academy committee member of the National Academy of Painting and Ph.D. in the Chinese Academy of Painting and Chinese Academy of Arts: I express the blooming lotus under the sun in an abstract form. This line in the form of composition represents the sense of lotus. The splashing color behind is about the lotus blooming in a lotus leaf, creating an atmosphere of prosperity and prosperity.
Jiang Baolin graduated from Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in his early years and studied under Chinese painting masters such as Lu Yanshao and Gu Kunbo. He then studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and was personally taught by Mr. Li Keran and others. The nourishment of different artistic styles in the north and south has made him a profound and open foundation in writing. This exhibition fully presents Mr. Jiang Baolin's exploration at different artistic stages. The exhibition not only includes his early pioneering landscape works, but also covers innovative works that are further abstracted on this basis.
Dean of the School of Fine Arts of East China Normal University and former vice president of the China National Academy of Painting: Combining the traditional charm of brush and ink, this charm, the soul of brush and ink, and modern form, reflects the unique charm of Chinese brush and ink in an abstract composition system. This is the biggest achievement of Teacher Jiang in decades. It can visually meet the visual needs of contemporary people, and can feel that the soul of Chinese brush and ink is still there.
For many years, while adhering to traditional brushwork, Jiang Baolin has learned from folk art forms such as woodblock New Year pictures and peasant art, breaking the traditional composition model, giving the works a modern consciousness, and presenting a diversified look.
Jiang Baolin: My creative philosophy is to both brush and ink and modern. Brush and ink are to be traditional. We must adhere to the national position, cultural position, and the spirit of brush and ink and comprehensive brush and ink techniques. So if we want modernity, we must build a new formal language and keep pace with the times to reflect the spirit of our times.
